How BuyIt Exchange works
A buyer-driven way to find an item: you say what you need, and sellers come to you.
What this service is
BuyIt Exchange is an introduction and contact-release service. We connect buyers who are looking for something with sellers who submit offers for items they represent as available. Once both sides agree and commit, and the seller pays the displayed success fee, we release contact information so the two parties can arrange the transaction directly between themselves.
The three steps in detail
- 1. Post what you need. Describe the item, preferred condition, location, and price range. Posting a buying request is free for buyers.
- 2. Review offers. Sellers submit offers for items they represent as available, with photos, condition, price, and fulfillment options. You compare the offers you receive.
- 3. Commit, connect, and review. The buyer and the seller separately commit to the agreed terms, and the seller pays the BuyIt Exchange Match Fee. After the payment is verified, contact information is released. The sale itself — payment for the item, pickup, delivery, or shipping — happens privately between the two parties. Each participant may then leave one verified review of the other.
Limited negotiation
Negotiation is intentionally short. An seller submits an offer, the buyer may send one counter, and the seller may send one final counter. When both sides agree, the terms are locked and can no longer be changed. An seller can edit or withdraw an offer until terms are agreed.
Buyer and seller commitment
Once terms are agreed, the buyer commits first. The seller then has a limited window to commit or decline, and the deadline is shown on screen. Either side can end the deal before the seller commits. While a commitment is active, the buying request and the offer are locked.
The Match Fee
The seller pays a Match Fee equal to 3% of the agreed item price, with a minimum of $2.99 and a maximum of $29.99. The exact fee is displayed before the seller commits.
Shipping cost is not included in the fee calculation. The success fee pays for the match and the release of contact information—not for the item itself.
Contact-information release
Your display name, city, and state are public. Your email address and phone number stay private. They are released only to the other party in the deal, and only after both parties commit and the seller's Match Fee payment is confirmed. At that point the buying request is marked matched.
Verified reviews after a match
Once a match reaches the verified fee-paid state, the buyer and the seller may each leave one review of the other. Reviews use a one-to-five-star rating; ratings of one to three stars require a comment of at least 25 meaningful characters, and comments are limited to 1,000 characters. A review cannot be edited after it is submitted.
Reviews are published blind: both reviews become public once both participants submit, or the first review becomes public seven days after it was submitted if the other participant does not review. Published reviews show the reviewer's display name and whether they took part as the buyer or the seller. Review eligibility is tied to the matched and fee-paid record on BuyIt Exchange; we do not verify that the private item transaction was completed. An average rating appears on a public member profile only after three or more published reviews.
What BuyIt Exchange does not do
- We do not own or inspect the item.
- We do not process payment for the item.
- We do not arrange shipping or pickup.
- We do not guarantee the item or completion of the transaction.
