Safety guidelines
Buyers and sellers arrange transactions directly with each other. These are practical suggestions to help you do that sensibly.
Before you commit
- Verify the item and the other party independently. Sellers submit offers for items they represent as available; BuyIt Exchange does not inspect or verify them.
- Use BuyIt Exchange Q&A to ask the seller about condition, age, defects, repairs, and item history before agreeing to terms.
- Keep the conversation on BuyIt Exchange. Contact details can't be shared until the commitment process releases them.
- Review the photos provided with the offer carefully, and ask the seller in Q&A to describe anything the photos don't make clear.
- Make sure the agreed price, shipping cost, and fulfillment method match what you expect.
Meeting in person
- Meet in a public, well-lit location whenever possible.
- Consider bringing another person with you.
- Inspect the item before paying when that is practical.
- Tell someone you trust where you are going and when you expect to be back.
Paying safely
- Avoid gift cards, wire transfers, cryptocurrency, and other unusual payment demands.
- Be alert to overpayment schemes, where someone sends too much and asks you to return the difference.
- Understand that peer-to-peer payment apps may offer limited dispute protection.
- Do not share passwords, Social Security numbers, bank-login credentials, or other sensitive information that the transaction does not require.
Shipping and remote deals
- Agree on the shipping method, insurance, tracking, and return expectations in writing before paying.
- Keep the tracking number and delivery confirmation.
- Be cautious when a deal moves off the agreed terms after both parties commit.
Review safety and abuse
- Keep a review factual and limited to your own matched transaction with that buyer or seller.
- Never post contact details, payment information, an address, or other private information in a review comment.
- Do not threaten, pressure, harass, or retaliate against someone because of a review, and do not demand that another participant submit, remove, or match a rating.
- Preserve relevant screenshots and transaction information before reporting serious abuse.
- To report a review you believe violates the review rules, email support@buyitexchange.com with the details. BuyIt Exchange may hide review content while investigating, but a negative rating alone is not proof of abuse.
- BuyIt Exchange does not decide the underlying private sale, damages, refunds, ownership, product condition, or criminal liability between the parties.
- If you receive a threat, suspect a crime, or believe you are in immediate physical danger, contact your local emergency services or law enforcement first rather than relying solely on BuyIt Exchange.
If something goes wrong
- Keep written records of your communications and payment arrangements.
- You can contact BuyIt Exchange about suspicious conduct.
- Contact law enforcement or your state consumer-protection agency when the situation warrants it.
